For Automatic Benefits

UNISON’s rules guarantee members’ a whole range of cash benefits, including death, accident, fatal accident and permanent and partial incapacity benefits, as well as grants for education and training.

For example, fatal accident benefit of £1,925 is paid to the parent of a child of a member with more than one year’s continuous membership, rising to £2,875 after 10 years membership.

For Credit Card Benefits

As well as all the other benefits you’d expect from a major credit card, the UNISON credit card has no annual fee in the first year.

For Education and Training

UNISON’s flexible learning courses mean you don’t have to choose between staying at work and improving your qualifications, as we offer access to open learning courses, open learning training packs in community care, information technology and school administration.

These are in addition to courses leading to recognised qualifications, and discount on courses provided by the National Extension College. Open University School of Health & Social Welfare, Open University Business School Open College of the Arts and more.

For Free Legal Advice

UNISON’s legal department can give you the best advice and support free of charge to protect your legal rights at work, including claims for personal injury and there’s help so that you and your family can quickly get to grips with problems away from the workplace too, including making a will and buying a house, two areas where it is important to have professional legal help.

So UNISON have arranged a low cost fixed fee scheme to help you make your will, and an all-in low cost conveyancing scheme, and all UNISON members are entitled to free legal advice on any non-work related problems.

Holiday Claims

UNISON members and their families who are injured on holiday may be able to claim compensation through the union's legal assistance scheme.

The service is available to UNISON members, or their family, where the member has held membership for at least 13 weeks before they need legal assistance. Members must pay their subscriptions throughout the case.

Emergency Criminal Law Helpline

If UNISON members face criminal charges arising from their work, the union can help. And now there is an out of branch hours emergency 24 hour helpline on 0800 587 7530 for members to call and give details of their case to an operator who will pass the matter to one of our criminal lawyers to action.

In office hours, members should still contact their branch in the first instance and the helpline will pass members back to their branch for non-urgent cases. Branches then access the service by faxing legal form CR (stock no 0839) to UNISON Head Office on 020 7551 1795.

For Help on the Road

A special deal for UNISON members from Britannia Rescue include savings on your road rescue cover, lone women priority, local recovery service, full roadside assistance and the fastest response time (average 34 minutes), with 95% of members attended within the hour.
