- The Equal Pay Review covers most Lancashire County Council employees – (but with some exceptions including teacher grades and youth worker grades).
- We have been asked to do it as part of a national agreement (The National Joint Council for Local Government Services), backed nationally by trade unions.
- This review sits within a wider Government context and is expected as part of the Local Government Pay and Workforce Strategy 2005. This strategy has a major focus on organisational development of which pay and working conditions plays a major part.
- This review will inform the development of a complete pay reward system - a key part of high performing workplaces.
- The authority needs to continue its modernisation projects (such as the Lancashire Efficiency Initiative, Customer Services Strategy) to continue to justify value for money and service delivery and this includes reviews of all pay and rewards elements.
- The review must look at equal pay and conditions for men and women and make sure that discrimination does not exist.
- The review will also look at avoiding unequal treatment on race, disability, sexual orientation, religion and age.
- Job evaluation is a way of assessing job rankings in the organisation based on looking at what people do in their jobs and avoiding issues that may discriminate unfairly.
- 30,000 job contracts will be looked at including direct service organisations.
- Along with Unison, Unite and GMB are participants in the Equal Pay Review
- Managers and employees may be called upon to attend interviews and help analyse some job descriptions.
- Managers are the most vital part of the communication chain with employees and are asked to become as involved as possible in communicating up and down the line.
