Welcome to the Lancashire Branch of Unison
The idea that being a trade union member might be frowned upon by management is one that has no place in the public sector.
Lancashire County Council recommends that all its staff regardless of grade, join a trade union.
It conveys this message to all staff through the Personnel Code:
This Authority supports the system of collective bargaining in every way, and believes in the principle of solving industrial relations problems by discussion and agreement. For practical purposes this can only be conducted by representatives of the employers and the employees. If collective bargaining of this kind is to continue and improve for the benefit of both, it is essential that the employees' organisation should be fully representative. The Authority is associated with other local authorities represented on the National and Regional Councils dealing with local authorities' services. It is equally sensible for all employees to be in membership of a Trade Union representing them on the appropriate negotiating body and all employees are encouraged so to be.
To facilitate working with the trade unions and Unison in particular, the County Council has agreed to provide time off work for trade union activities which includes training. For details of this agreement click here, (this link is only available to those with access to the lccintranet).
